La Flor de la Sabana
By Dagmar Reinhard
Don Melvin Beita learned the business from scratch, when he was a six-year-old boy, he started working at the family business La Flor de la Sabana in Buenos Aires in the canton of Buenos Aires.
After he finished school, he worked for several years with Pindeco (Pineapple Development Corporation-Del Monte). Because of his innate entrepreneurial spirit, he soon became independent and began managing the company’s Club.
Later on and with a broader experience in managing restaurants, he took over the management of La Flor de la Sabana, bringing the route buses back to the restaurant.
With the opening of the Costanera Sur, Melvin saw an opportunity to expand into Uvita, Costa Ballena, wherein 2010 he opened his second fast service restaurant in conjunction with the first long-distance bus stop.
In January 2014, he found the perfect piece of land where he could build a restaurant in a large-scale building on his own property, right in the heart of the thriving town of Uvita.
In May 2015, he opened the doors to La Flor de la Sabana, a bright and airy fast-food restaurant to accommodate up to 250-seated people, offering a typical Costa Rican menu. There are also, two convenience stores, very clean public restrooms, and 24 hours a day electronic surveillance.
