Neem (Azadirachta Indica) And Its Extraordinary Health Benefits
AUTHOR: Dagmar Reinhard
Miguel Garro Sánchez is a herbalist from the small town of China Kichà in the mountains of La Amistad, Pérez Zeledón. Miguel grows among others, Neem, noni, and moringa trees, all native to India. They say these three trees have the most remarkable healing properties on the planet.
Every week he travels to the Farmer's Markets to exhibit a wide range of herbs, leaves, and roots. He pulverizes them to prepare tinctures and oils.
For this edition, we asked him to inform the readers about the incredible benefits of the Neem tree, whose leaves, seeds, roots, and bark contain important compounds that have medicinal and beauty properties. The leaves contain over 130 different types of biological compounds, which help heal the body and further healthy living.
Neem is best known for its anti-aging properties due to its antioxidant properties. It is an excellent remedy against fungal infections (including athlete's foot).
And it is good for your bones; It leaves contain powerful calcium and mineral content, which help build strong bones. It reduces inflammation and relieves arthritic pain and any stiffness or pain which comes with age.
Neem treats skin disorders as it has detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties. It treats eczema and infections, reduces acne, and prevents pimples and skin blemishes. And it can heal wounds without leaving any ugly scars and is an excellent source of moisturizer for the skin, shining clearer and youthful.
Oral hygiene: Neem prevents the build-up of harmful pathogens and the spread of germs. You can chew the leaves regularly; it also promotes fresh breath, maintains a pH level in the saliva, and protects oral health from decay.
Strong and long hair: Due to its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, Neem is an excellent way to curb dandruff. It makes hair follicles more robust, thus encouraging hair growth too.
Insecticide: With the dengue menace around the corner, it fights mosquitos very effectively.
You commonly find it in products such as shampoos, skin lotions, or toothpaste.
Or better, visit Miguel:
Mercado Uvita on Wednesday and Saturday Eco-Feria in Dominical on Friday. He offers freshly harvested herbs and natural products, such as Palo de Arco, or the dioica Nettle.
