For the past six months, selected local girls from Dominical and Dominicalito have been thrilled to learn to surf at our community project Chicas Con Propósito!
The project is ran by three passionate surfer girls; Claudia Schulz, Jeanine Haddad and Debbie Zec; that wanted to give an opportunity to these young girls to learn to surf and bring joy into their live.
Surfing is a good way to keep your body and spirit happy, to keep your mind free from the daily struggles and learn how to become yourself.
Our mission is to use surfing as a bait to get the girls involved and create awareness and consciousness of how valuable they are as a woman and that they can achieve much more than they think. We are also teaching them discipline and moral values.
Chicas Con Propósito started with 5 girls and now we have 12 to 20 girls per meeting. The surf sessions happen twice a month on Saturdays and we post the dates on our Facebook page. The more people have been hearing about the program the more help we have received, and we are so happy for that! So please spread the word!
People can help by donating used surfboards, boogie boards, leashes, rashguards, swimming suits, shorts, sunscreen and wax. Cash donations are welcome to help providing snacks, beverages and transportation for the girls and volunteers.
