Dominical's first "Festival de la Luz" took place on December 10, 2022; if the vibe and community turnout are any indicator, it was a hit.
It was a highly interactive event, with spectators and performers playing off each other's energy. A fine blend of local families and Ex Pats was in attendance, all cheering and smiling.
The Organizers for this event were Karla Masis and Norman Jara. Both are founding members of the Dominical Band, and Marcos Zanchee , a native of Buenos Aires, is the Dominical Band Musical Leader.

The Parade comprised local Businesses/ Organizations in floats, fire spinners, and 4 Marching Bands. Dominical, Quepos, Coronado, and Cortés marching bands were represented, and all had different flavors to their performances. What was in common was the infectious rhythm and thunderous drums. In addition, the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree was a focal point.

In a quest to know more about the origins of the Dominical Marching Band called "Banda Cultural de Dominical, "I spoke with Steve Fergus. Steve has been a long-time resident and contributor to the community lifeguard program in Dominical and its surroundings. As a band member, he informs, "The idea of forming a band was born in a meeting of friends where we thought about rescuing the Costa Rican culture.
Living in a tourist area, Costa Rican culture and folklore was lost for years. So we saw the idea of returning to our roots and making a fusion with different people regardless of age and nationality to show our friends and tourists the true values and Costa Rica spirit.
