Huen Tebec is the new field station of the Institute of Tropical Biodiversity (IBT) in Uvita Bahia, next to the Marine Ballena National Park.
Its name, taken from the Boruca dictionary means frog (Huen) and snake (Tebec) and refers to our interest in amphibians and reptiles of the South Pacific of Costa Rica.
“Our desire to investigate the ecology and diversity of these and other vertebrates such as birds and mammals in our area, and our approach to the local indigenous culture helped us choose this name”, said Susana Garcia, Biologist of IBT Costa Rica.
The lines of work of the Institute of Tropical Biodiversity are:
- Research and international academic training in the field of natural sciences, including areas such as biology, environmental science, and ethnology.
- Promote international cooperation (human, technical and economic) in the areas of research, management and Conservation of biodiversity, particularly in so-called “developing countries”.
- Promote, channel and structure BioTurismo (nature tourism, conservation and / or scientific), anticipating the new dynamics of tourism that respects the heritage and is involved in the preservation of natural and cultural values.
- Cooperate and form methods and rural training for co-development.
