Enrique Murillo, alias El Flaco, who has been living in Uvita for the last 15 years, just achieved another life-goal with the support of the Germinator Project (Proyecto Germinadora) and other institutions such as INA, IMAS, the University of Costa Rica, Judesur, Cenecoop, and Banco Popular. Earlier this year, he graduated from a course in business management, which allowed him to request the support of the Costa Rican Government to set up his own company, which, according to the requirements had to be focused on tourism, suitable to the area, and innovative.
Enrique hit the jackpot with his project; his success is based on his perseverance to gather all the requirements to obtain the permit classified under “Donkey breeding and tours for children and youth.” In San Antonio de Belén, he acquired two native donkeys from Costa Rica and two of the Kentucky breed. He recently participated in a tourism fair in San Vito, organized by the Germinator Project.
Filemón and Melita are well-fed and taken care, and they proudly take the children for a ride along the spheres to the estuary, and back-down the main road of Bahia. On weekends, under the supervision of their father Enrique, Geiner and Andreas are the guides. “The donkeys are very sweet animals” they say, “they always remember their pathway, are vegetarians and love to steal bread.”
The donkeys can also be rented for special events, birthdays, and family parties.
