What is your favorite bird in Costa Ballena?

At the end of the summer, we say good-bye to beautiful migratory birds such as ospreys starting their journey back to their breeding grounds in North America. Each year with the arrival of the rains, the Annual Bird Count takes place, activity organized by the Ornithological Association of Costa Rica (AOCR). From May 15th to June 30th, observers will record their bird counts using the methodology known as Point Count.

Last year, birds as spectacular as the King Vulture, the Northern Jacana, Tinamous, Cusingas, blue crowned Manakin, Scarlett Macaws, and the Green Honeycreeper, to name some of my favorites, joined us in our Costa Ballena bird count.

This year, we are repeating the counts, and if you wish, you can join us as a volunteer at the following locations: Oro Verde, La Cusinga, Five Senses, Finca Carolina, Reserva Playa Tortuga, and the Uvita Bahia route.

Side by side with international ornithologists and local observers, we will be counting all the birds to assess the changes in population over the years, while we share our knowledge about the toucans, eagles, herons, and tanagers.
