The waterfalls of St. Lucia – San Josecito

Hidden in the mountains of Uvita, are the St. Lucia waterfalls, a beauty not seen yet by many foreign eyes. However, Humberto Nuñez decided to create an opportunity for tourists who have a deep interest in nature – needless to say, we were some of the first people going to explore it. He and his family, welcomed us in his property, and after parking the car, we started the four-hour tour. The narrow, but well secured road took us not only over hills and through valleys, but also through many small rivers. It is important to bring solid and waterproof footwear.

As soon as your steps gain stability you will be able to admire the nature surrounding you, made up by exuberant primary and secondary forest, an amazing diversity of flowers, and the quiet gurgling of the river as a musical background. It is home for a huge variety of frogs, birds, monkeys, and more. Humberto’s sharp eye will help you to find them and observe them.

Finally, we stopped, absolutely astonished, facing one of the three waterfalls of St. Lucia – they are, by the way, the largest falls in Costa Ballena, with an approximate height of 100 meters. During the summer, anyone can go swimming in this natural pool. When we at last, made up our minds about ending our visit, we returned to the starting point where Doña Yahaira Nuñez was already awaiting us with delicious, freshly made Costa Rican dishes.

In few words, this is an interesting tour in a familiar atmosphere that will make you feel great, surrounded by the purest air you’ve ever breathed.
