Aiming to create opportunities for stable and quality employment for young people in the communities of Dominical, Uvita, Bahía Ballena, Ojochal, and Quepos; the Ministry of Public Security, in conjunction with the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), have initiated the project “undertaking for a life without violence.”
“The goal of the project is to create a series of economic opportunities that contribute to reducing crime and violence among young people and guarantee them employment,” said María Fullmen Salazar, Vice Minister of Security, during the presentation of the project at the Social Presidential Council.
Thirty-five young people will be selected from these communities, ensuring equal opportunities for men and women, with the aim of initiating training programs and technical assistance that will lead to the design, creation, and development of economic enterprises to ensure these young people steady employment.
The project includes activities that keep young people away from violence, as well as programs for those wishing to return to high school or technical training in key areas such as learning English, computer and other skills to get better jobs.
To achieve these objectives, the project has a fund to help finance young people’s productive ideas. It is also intended to create greater responsiveness of the business sector in Costa Ballena with the purpose of supporting the work to be performed during the two and a half years of the project.
It is a regional initiative of the Central American Integration ystem (SICA) and has the financial support of the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID).
