Costa Ballena – two hotels have earned the top prize of Sustainability

Two hotels have earned the top prize of Sustainable Tourism CertificationThe Sustainable Tourism Certification (CST) is a program that recognizes the hospitality companies’ commitment to the environment.  It involves the evaluation of sustainable levels based on the degree of compliance to each one of the terms such as quality standards and environmental, social, and business requirements.

This year, Cuna del Angel Hotel has won the top award, becoming one of the first two who achieved it in the area.  That shows the company’s commitment to the society and environment.  It also represents the effort to promote a different sortof tourism, the kind that respects all natural resources and preserves the customs and traditions among the people living within the communities.

During the celebration of the World Tourism Day, other lodge received the Sustainable Tourism Certification (CST).  This is the highest award for this type of tourism in Costa Rica.  It reached the five levels of sustainability with an excellent score.  That makes it one of the most sustainable hotels in the South Pacific and the country.  This model proves it is possible to develop tourism, while taking care of the environment and the social needs, avoiding any negative impact äon communities and socio-environmental issues surrounding the Brunca Region.
