The other day I was talking to a friend who was concerned about the abuse of power and the painful situations happening on the other side of the hemisphere and how there’s nothing we can do about it. Perhaps we can’t do much about it, but all around us, there are people and causes that need our help.
The idea of the physical practice of Yoga is not to make us so flexible that we can put our legs behind our heads. The foundation of the yoga practice is set upon the idea that our bodies, minds, and spirits are interconnected.
Our daily yoga practice is a way to release the body from negative baggage, so we can find a better mental and emotional state of calmness and awareness to connect with our natural state of love and compassion, in order to finally allow our actions to come from there and not from our egos or our constant flow of turbulent emotions. Also, through this state of awareness, we can be present in every moment, and so we can easily recognize when and where we are needed, and take the opportunity to perform Random Acts of Kindness without expecting anything back.
One of my favorite phrases from the Bhagavad Gita says: “You are the owner of your actions, but not of the fruits of your actions.”
Maybe we were taught to set expectations for the good we do in this world, and we feel disappointed when there is no payback. At the end, the feeling of contentment and joy for doing something good will bring to us the highest level of reward.
Remember: RAK Random Acts of Kindness !
