Vida Auténtica “ Pueblo Roots Initiatives ” has started its first classes of 2015, and they are being held in Playa Matapalo and Platanillo. The number of participants signing up for the intensive 15-week organic gardening program is close to sixty, which makes for very full classrooms.
Now that the word is out about what Vida Auténtica has been doing in the Central Pacific zone, there is great excitement in other towns about bringing “The Roots Initiatives” closer to home. The participants of Matapalo, in particular, are excited about the possibility of creating their own local organic market so that everyone in the community can enjoy a regular supply of nutritious food. In addition, there is a monetary benefit that comes from keeping an important industry local.
In the past weeks, the students have had an introduction to the program, which quickly turned into an opportunity to get some dirt on their hands.
The hands-on learning during the first month of the curriculum includes hot and cold composts, microorganism collection, fermented substrates, bokashi, mountain microorganism (MM) solid and liquid, bio ferments, and finally to get the process really growing, plant propagation.
Things happen fast when you are not looking and that is one of the beautiful things about gardening.
When you don’t pay attention everything is alive with dynamic growth and movement. And, when you dolook all that life stands still, new and alive, so that you may enjoy the beauty that it wishes to present to you.
