We met Marvin just as he was successfully finishing his first big mural at the bowling alley in Coronado; it is a huge marine underwater landscape covering two walls. “It represented an incredible challenge for me because I never painted anything of such magnitude. Once I started painting, the world around me disappeared, and I felt very happy with what I was doing. At this time, I was 18 years old, ” he expressed.
Marvin is from Buena Vista de Rivas. He is completely self-taught and learned painting techniques by watching a TV program called “The Magic of Color” with Pedro Cheref. One by one, many of his neighbors started asking him to paint artwork for their homes; later, he was invited to paint the community hall at Buena Vista.
When his friend Alvaro painted the new Surf Hotel Mavi in Dominical, he recommended Marvin to the Italian owners. Marvin decorated each room with a different tree; he also painted, in the reception area, a mural representing a tropical sun, and a huge wave on an idyllic beach. At the far end of the hotel Marvin painted an Italian medieval street leading to Playa Dominical.
He always starts his artwork with a sketch, which often looks dark in the beginning; however, as he applies millions of delicate strokes of color, his painting comes to life.
It would be amazing to see the world through his gifted eyes!
