At the early age of three-years, Saulo Gutiérrez started studying music at the Sinfónica Nacional in San José. For 10 years, he received classes and now at the age of 19, he plays the guitar and violin masterfully. We met him and his father Mauricio Gutierrez Ventura by the dock in Puerto Jiménez, where they played for us.

Mauricio is a singer and composer of songs with political and social undertones; he is also a music teacher at Escuela Corcovado and a committed advocate of “Música de la Osa.” To him, the protection of environment and ecology is not a joke. He loves creating songs for kids; among the favorites are La Danta Maranta (danta= tapir) and El Jaguar.

He teaches them how to love and preserve nature for future generations. Mauricio is also Culture and Art Coordinator for the Development Association of Puerto Jiménez, the largest town on the Osa Península, and he works side by side with SINEM (National System for Musical Education). Mauricio is proud of living in Osa for over 10 years where he really feels at home.

With several friends, he created the group “Feeling Urbano.” They play Reggae, Rock-Latino, and Ska; he is contributing to these styles with a new element, the classic violin. The group has already attracted a large number of fans.
