Our community of Playa Hermosa, introduced in the past edition of “Ballena Tales,” offers a wide variety of activities helping the visitor to get involved in the traditional Costa Rican way of life, and in topics like sustainability and health.
Medicinal plant
In this edition, we want to focus on the medicinal plants’ tour conducted by Doña Aida. This openhearted woman lives on the rocky cliffs of Playa Hermosa-Beach. She has always had a special interest in medicinal plants and uses them with the purpose to stay away from the modern pharmaceutical products. She has achieved extensive knowledge of many plants, herbs, leaves, and branches, and she knows how to use them as natural remedies.
Costa Rica is home to many plants known and frequently used by indigenous tribes; therefore, it makes sense that Doña Aida embraced the practice of the alternative healing methods she learned from her mother.
For instance, some people might have heard about the health properties of the Guanabana. Aida will share her secrets with you of how to use it properly as a reliable remedy.
You may enjoy learning about plants you know them to be used as cooking spices, but interestingly, they can be used in the treatment of several illnesses. Since she is cultivating most of the plants next to her house, the tour is a small, but interesting walk through the area.
