A Unique Experience in Nature´s Heart

Near Platanillo of Barú and hidden in the lush tropical jungle you will find the extensive La Ceiba EcoAdventures Biological Reserve, measuring 200 acres. Once used for mixed farming, the father of the current owner Esteban Picado started to protect and reforest the area more than 15 years ago.

La Ceiba EcoAdventures - A Unique Experience in Nature´s HeartAfter working for years with different companies in Costa Rica as well as in the USA, Esteban has now decided to only dedicate himself to his father´s project and to continue his blueprint. There is a lot to discover along the 13.5 km of widespread hiking trails with different levels of difficulty. Though, just after a short walk, you reach the nearby river with water holes for bathing. Adventurous hikers and nature lovers should take a guided tour of the highlights of the area. Four impressive waterfalls are perfect spots for relaxation and refreshment.

The trails lead through the primary and secondary forest, which is home to native animals: toucans, monkeys, sloths, frogs and much more. Special bird watching tours are available. A 4-hour tour takes you to the most amazing La Raiz waterfall where you can have a picnic, soak in the bubbling waters or bask in the sun which shines through the tree canopy. Coming back, a traditional Costa Rican lunch at El Rancho Restaurant is awaiting you, included in the tour price.

If you are planning to spend more than a day at the La Ceiba EcoAdventure Reserve, you have the option to stay overnight. Tents can be brought or rented on site. The campsite has an open kitchen and sanitary facilities. Four comfortable cabins can each accommodate three to five people. Larger groups of up to twelve can stay in the private guesthouse. It has an open design, a Master Suite and four additional bedrooms.

Enjoy a unique EcoAdventure in the heart of the jungle! Don´t forget to bring hiking shoes, swimsuit, a camera and a second set of clothes!
