A Learning Experience

Matt, Holly, and little Mason are from Pollock Pines in California. It was their fourth visit to Costa Ballena and each visit has been different.

In 2009, Matt and Holly spent their vacation at a friend´s house in Uvita.

“The energy was so different; it was the beginning of the green season, and on the way from San José, we were greeted by an impressive lightning show. At dawn, toucans and howlers were active near the house. Our days were intense: fishing, surfing, waterfalls, tours, and nightlife were amazing.”

They returned the following year and the year after, staying at Oxygen, the Waterfall Villas, and the Cristal Ballena Hotel, while exploring their dream destination more. The tour to Caño Island was an unforgettable experience.

In 2013, their son was born and traveling wasn’t an option.

As soon as little Mason started walking, the new family returned to their preferred vacation spot. This time, they rented a small house in Playa Hermosa, experiencing the world through their child’s eyes: the ocean, endless beaches to run at low tide, the monkeys, and the huge iguanas. Faster than expected, the toddler picked up some Spanish words.

This last vacation was a challenging experience since the criteria had changed and their plans of buying a property had to be reevaluated, taking in consideration the proximity of a hospital and the real need for a car.

When we asked them about how they feel in Costa Ballena, Holly said:

“We feel privileged with so many beautiful experiences, and very fortunate with the hospitality from the people we have met. Costa Rica showed us there is so much more outside our comfort bubble. We love the pura vida lifestyle!”
