“As parents, teachers, mentors, or families and community members, we often want our children/students to develop an awareness of themselves and those around them. How do our children have a sense of their worlds as well as a sense of their place in the environment and the community that surrounds them”? Alys Robinson thought in those terms which led her to create Life Project Education.
Alys began offering private, small group, project-based literacy workshops when she relocated to Costa Rica. However, she had no intention of starting an actual school or a learning center. In fact, she did not plan to stay in Costa Rica long term. However, the parents asked her to offer more, create and to become more involved. Then she began to understand what it meant to be "called to service."
Alongside a small community of parents, children, and mentors, she co created Life Project in Manuel Antonio four years ago. Alys shares, "I am forever grateful for the children and families of Manuel Antonio for seeing that gift in me and calling me forward, awakening my deepest and true mission." Recently, Alys relocated to Ojochal where the Life Project Education (LPE) will now open in Mid-January of 2019. She relocated to Costa Ballena because this region resonated with her in a way that no other geographical area or community around the world ever had.
To serve the community and environment, LPE has partnered with The Sloth Institute, Tortugas de Matapalo, Kids Saving the Rainforest, and Asomacao. Alys emphasizes the importance of noting that Life Project is not a school but rather a "transformative and holistic learning community center with a focus on sustainable living systems, nutrition and well-being, community building, creative expression, conservation science, eco-entrepreneurship, communication, and mindfulness.
