Second Annual Costa Ballena
Craft Beer Tasting
Saturday, January 17th, Goathouse km169
We met with Tori Philippi, the Operation’s Director and Matt Newby, the Event Coordinator; we asked them to describe the concept behind the Craft Beer Tasting here in Costa Ballena.
“The idea is to grow the Craft Beer Industry here in the southern zone, and allow everyone to try a variety of beers in a variety of styles.” They continued to explain that the Festival is focused on two communities. First is the Costa Rican craft beer community: “There will be 17 brewers from all over the country as well as local brewers represented. The entire craft beer community is working and growing together. Second is the Costa Ballena community which benefis by hosting the tasting as well as enjoying the immense variety of beers available.
Because every beer is different from all others, there is something new to learn about the style, flvor, and body with each tasting. Rather than drinking a standard lager simply for the buzz, drinking craft beer is a great flavor experience,” Tori said.
There will be a seven-hour beer tasting, and if you wish, you can try 35 different beers such as Honey Ale, India Pale Ale (IPA), Hefeweizen, Saison, Barley Wine, Wheat, Witbier, Brown Ale, Pale Ale, Stout, Irish Red Ale, Dunkelweizen, Seasonal, Bock, Bourbon Porter, and Belgian Wit.
At the educational tent set up in the garden, you will learn about home brewing, beer styles, and the Costa Rican Craft Beer Industry. There will be great food available.
The entrance fee is $20 and includes fie tasting tickets, which can be exchanged for a 5oz pour.
Come, have fun, and try new flavors!
