At Uvita’s farmers’ market, Mauren and Ademar are the most constant sellers, who every Saturday, for over the past 8 years, sell their fresh, certified organic vegetables and greens.

Ademar, who got his first organic certification in 2009, says: “For us, it has been a great experience to have such grateful customers who come back every week due to the high quality of our products.” After that, they got other certifications from national and international institutions.
Before cultivating land, one must take care of it for 3 years, and check its full background; this is only one of many requisites. In Uvita, there is an organic, non-chemical production project underway. This means that everything is used and nothing is wasted; even the fertilizers and insecticides are organic. Every season, the type of plague changes, and each one requires a different approach.
Everything is used and recycled at the farm; and due to the importance of a clean watering system, they have their own well.
Their dream is to have an ox-powered sugar mill; in the meantime, they use an old motorcycle that Ademar rides, while his wife Mauren introduces the sugar canes into the press. After a short time, a jar is full of this delicious juice.
A long time ago, Ademar became very interested in organic agriculture, since he suffered from a vision problem that could have left him blind. “The order that I got was: ‘harvest your own vegetables’, and I applied that to my own family life, by planting our chemical-free greens. My sight today is perfectly healthy.”
Soon you can visit this experimental farm and distribution center and buy vegetables. Only on Saturdays at the Uvita’s farmers’ market will you find the Varela couple.
