The Costa Ballena Animal Home Refuge

~ by Kate Barr

We are thrilled to announce the Grand Opening of El RefUgio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena at our temporary facility located at the CVS Veterinario, on Chamán Street, in Uvita. El RefUgio provides shelter/“refuge” and love to abandoned and homeless dogs and cats.

Our mission includes ensuring a perfect match between our rescue animal and a foster or adoptive family. We reach out to local communities with programs to provide comprehensive, yet simple education about animal welfare, including the importance of spaying, neutering, vaccinating, and caring for a pet.

Our goal is to create a balanced, controlled population to minimize the homelessness and suffering for the cats and dogs in Costa Rica.

El RefUgio recently became a formalized taxdeductible, non-profit organization in the U.S.A. allowing for international fund-raising for grants and donations. Our non-profit status allowing for tax deductions for Costa Rican businesses or residents will be finalized shortly. We aim to eventually raise enough money to open up a permanent Refuge, where staff can be on-site 24 hours and our animals can have more space to run and play freely in a sanctuary setting.

Our organization is primarily volunteer-based, so we rely heavily on donations.

We operate two shifts per day attending to our animals’ daily needs, providing love and socialization opportunities, with proper in-take, medical, daily care, and training protocols to give maximum personal and medical attention to each animal. We want them to reach their highest level of physical condition and emotional wellness.

Volunteers give their time and love graciously to provide our animals with a sense of security while they are “homed” temporarily at El RefUgio. To thank our community sponsors for their support, we are hosting a private Champagne and Canapés Launch Party on May 13, 2017 at Reserva Playa Tortuga between 3 and 6 pm.

To become a sponsor and receive a complementary invitation to this private event, see below.
